Coastal Currents: 'Faceless'

We love taking part in the big Coastal Currents Art Festival that takes place in Hastings. This year our exhibition is called ‘Faceless’ and it is focusing on modern slavery and human trafficking, in connection with the Hastings Anti-Trafficking Hub, which is chaired by King's Church, and which includes local police, council officers and others. The launch event takes place up here in Coffee Box on Thursday 7 September at 6pm. All are welcome. Free entry.

Capturing the tides of local life

The local Coastal Currents Arts Festival is at the heart of the Hastings & St Leonards calendar. It's a fantastic three weeks celebrating the incredible creativity of our town's renowned artistic community, attracting thousands of visitors and tourists. This year, for the first time, King's Church Hastings will be taking part, and Coffee Box at the Hastings Centre are pleased to be hosting their exhibition.

During Coastal Currents, the exhibition will be open to everyone. So whether you're a photographer, painter, illustrator or fine artist – beginner or advanced – King's would love to showcase some of your work at Coffee Box.

The theme of the exhibition is Tides, which will capture the ebb and flow of life in Hastings & 1066 Country. Tides will be a collaborative exhibition of photographic and creative works from artists living in the area, touching on the seasons, the memories, the hopes and the realities of life in our town. This is a brilliant opportunity to participate in this festival that is such a key part of our town.

The brief is simple: produce a single photo or a collection of portraits or scenic photographs, representing your view of the tides of life in Hastings & 1066 Country. For each image or for your collection as a whole, please provide a brief story, memory or hope, explaining your chosen theme. Please bear in mind that some photos will be printed at A3 for the exhibition, so please use the highest resolution settings on your camera and submit uncompressed versions of your photos (RAW if possible). Hand your work in to the Hastings Centre Reception on a CD or memory stick, or email by Friday 31 July.

If your work is selected, it will be displayed in Coffee Box throughout Coastal Currents, including at the King's launch event on Saturday 5 September (more info coming soon).

King's would love to see your work and showcase some of the outstanding talent from the local community. Other Coastal Current exhibitions will be taking place across Hastings' public spaces between 28 August and 13 September, too, promising a colourful exhibition of creative arts, so note the dates and don't miss this great event in our town.

Spring at the Hastings Centre

Whether you're into arts and crafts, or sports and films are your forte, there's plenty for everyone at Hastings Centre this spring.

We hope you enjoyed our charity bootfair on Saturday 14 February. These will continue to run over the next few months, with the next event taking place on Saturday 14 March. And if you enjoy our bootfairs, you'll love our new charity Craft Fairs, starting Saturday 28 March at 10am. These will be run in a similar way but with a specific focus on crafts that can be made, bought and sold. To set up your own table will cost only £10 (or £12 if you require table hire from the building), and entry is free to the public. We're really looking forward to starting these events, which are open to all. For more details, please contact Jackie Moule on 01424 718400, 07938828795 or email

And if you're joining us for the Craft Fair on 28 March, why not stay for our family film night? We were thrilled to see over 70 people join us for our recent free screening of Brave, and this time we'll be showing The Incredibles (PG), taking place at Coffee Box from 5pm. Don't forget that we want to see your best superhero costumes on the evening! Entry is free, doors open at 5pm, cinema-style snacks and drinks will be available and our licensed bar will be open. What better way to spend a Saturday night with the family?

Don't forget that Coffee Box is available for private hire, too! Why not host your own film night, party or family celebration with us? We have plenty of parking space, in-house catering, a licensed bar, and friendly staff who are available to serve at your events. Get in touch with us today!

Easter is only a few weeks away, and King's Church will be celebrating with two family-friendly services at the Hastings Centre on Easter Sunday (5 April). Come along at 10am or 6:30pm for an Easter celebration featuring live music, performances, stories, hot cross buns and, in the morning, a free chocolate egg for every child under 11. This is always great community celebration and we'd love to see you there.

For sports fans, we have plenty of events coming up: the next Hastings Kickboxing Academy Fight Night will be on Saturday 21 March; American Pro-Wrestling will take place on Saturday 16 May; and West Hill Boxing Club will have their tournament on Saturday 30 May. Our last Kickboxing Academy Fight Night was a real success, with nearly 600 spectators from across the country watching the entertainment in our spacious and fully-equipped auditorium, enjoying our in-house catering and visiting the licensed bar at Coffee Box. We were also thrilled to host the last American Pro-Wrestling event, and we're looking forward to more high-energy entertainment in the coming months. For more information and to book your tickets, check out these events in our calendar.

At Hastings Centre, we host a huge range of events and have facilities for all occasions. Call us on 01424 753322, email, or better still, come and visit! Pop in for a coffee, visit one of our regular bookings or chat to our staff to see how we can help. We look forward to seeing you soon.
